Yharo & Odin
About
A nerve agent canister slams against a wall, and Doctor Weston Peel quickly plants on a face mask as the explosion emits a poisonous gas mist.
Weston watches as Yharo & Odin Duvall, tied to chairs, slumped unconscious. Gleeful, Weston celebrates the end of his sinister and crazy experiments as the mixed-race brothers, an African-American and a Caucasian, suffer.
Lolita Duvall, the boys’ mother, and her boyfriend, Andrew Garrow, break into the vast Weston Peel Glendale, California compound, ready to rescue their kids.
Across town, clues lead FBI agent Boaz Somair, with a SWAT team package, to arrest Weston for an unrelated crime.

“Yharo & Odin” by Yomi Akinode is a gripping thriller that expertly combines familial bonds with pulse-pounding suspense. Akinode introduces the mixed-race Duvall brothers — Yharo and Odin — whose bond is both tender and formidable. The narrative kicks off explosively, with a nerve-agent attack that thrusts the brothers into mortal peril, setting a relentless pace that had me in its grip from the first scene. I like that the dialogue feels natural, and the characters are well developed — Villain Weston Peel makes for a chilling adversary, while FBI agent Boaz Somair and their mother Lolita add layers of tactical and emotional depth. Well written and well edited, “Yharo & Odin” is a standout — heartfelt, yet unapologetically intense.

From the first explosive moment to the last pulse-pounding scene, this book grabs you by the throat and refuses to let go. The story kicks off with a deadly nerve agent attack, setting the tone for a dark and relentless thriller that expertly weaves science, family, and justice into a gripping narrative.Doctor Weston Peel is one of the most chilling villains in recent memory—a brilliant mind twisted by obsession. The Duvall brothers, Yharo and Odin, are compelling in both their vulnerability and strength, their bond made even more powerful by their mixed heritage and what they endure. Their mother, Lolita, becomes a force of nature, her maternal fury matched only by the calm, tactical precision of Andrew Garrow. And just when you think you know where the story is headed, FBI agent Boaz Somair enters the scene with a SWAT team and a whole new layer of intensity.
Every chapter feels like a cinematic scene—tight, tense, and emotionally charged. This is not just a rescue mission; it’s a psychological chess match with lives at stake. The pacing is masterful, and the characters have depth, flaws, and moments of raw humanity that make them unforgettable.
If you love your thrillers gritty, emotional, and unapologetically fast-paced, this book is an absolute must-read. It’s the kind of story you’ll finish in one sitting, then immediately want to discuss with someone. A knockout debut—or if it’s not the author’s first, it sure feels like their finest.

This psychological thriller grabs your attention from the opening scene and maintains tension until the final page. The story balances family drama with action-packed suspense in compelling ways. It follows the Duvall brothers, Yharo and Odin, who anchor this tale with their strong sibling bond. Their mixed heritage adds depth to their characters and the dynamic between them. Doctor Weston Peel makes for a memorable villain. His twisted experiments and obsessive nature create a menace that drives the plot forward. It covers themes of resilience, family loyalty, and justice.I love how the author handles multiple storylines. The rescue mission led by mother Lolita and boyfriend Andrew runs parallel to FBI agent Boaz Somair's investigation, creating multiple points of tension that converge in satisfying ways. The pacing keeps you turning pages while allowing slower moments for character development. The dialogue moves the story along at a brisk pace, and the action sequences pack a real punch. Some scenes border on the edge of believability, but the emotional core of the story, the lengths family will go to protect each other, grounds everything in relatable human motivation.
However, despite all these positives, I feel that the writing could benefit from better polish and editing, and the plot from proper structuring. The e-book version needs better design and typesetting. Large gaps between some paragraphs and frequent short one-sentence paragraphs that run over extended sections disrupted the pacing and pulled me away from the story. These formatting issues detracted from what is otherwise an engaging read.

I think the story favored a positive review, but could benefit from a rewrite. It was through the lenses of bias that held this story back from what it could have really been. My example is that the author wrote this as “they were dealt a losing hand” instead of “look at their resilience”. If the writing style could change, then this is a 4 or 5-star story!
